A good place to start on dyslexia and learning disabilties
If you have just learned that you or your child have a LD, we'd like you to consider a few things:
First, learning disabilities are very common. In fact, there are some estimates that up to 15% of the population in the US has a LD, of over 40 million people in the US alone.
Second, people with LDs can be very successful. In fact, many if not most of most creative people in our history have had LD, including Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, JFK, Leonardo DaVinci, Steven Spielberg and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Third, there are several things you can do to help. In fact, the law protects LDs through the American with Disabilities act, and provides students and workers with reasonable accommodations to help them succeed, including extra time on tests, computers in class, etc.
